Master Sgt. Jennifer Loredo had just been deployed to northern Afghanistan in June 2010. At the same time her husband Edwardo or “Eddie” — a staff sergeant also with the U.S. Army — was nearing the end of his deployment in southern Afghanistan.

Their two children were at home in the U.S. staying with family when tragedy struck. Eddie was killed while fighting insurgent forces.

Since her husband’s death, Mentor native Loredo has worked to help other military spouses and family members going through the same emotional upheaval she experienced. She has also taken on an advisory role within the Army to help propel the service forward in regards to situations involving families with both spouses in the military and dealing with the ultimate loss.
